Finished “The Overton Window”

I finished The Overton Window by Glenn Beck because I left Hologram Of Liberty at home while I was out of town this past weekend. The Overton Window is on my Kindle account so I have it with me everywhere.

It worked out better since I was planning to do the bulk of my reading on the stand. It is a lot easier to slip my phone into my shirt pocket when deer catch my eye. I saw four this past weekend. One I spooked from 50 yards on the way to my stand. Unfortunately since I arrived later than I like due to coffee and conversation. Through the thick woods to the east I discerned a tale probably crossing the creek. The next two, positively identified does, appeared on my weak side but as I transitioned I noticed my window was closing rapidly as they entered the thick. They caught a whiff of me while moving through my blind spot and carried on for a little bit before I lost audible track of them. I heard numerous cries, grunts, and rattling all around me throughout the morning. I placed a salt lick in between their two creek crossings to possible divert their trails a bit.

Anyway, book review. The Overton Window is a work of fiction. I chose this title because I wanted to read something Mr. Beck wrote. Ghost-written or not it kept my attention, but if I hadn’t read it I wouldn’t be any worse off. I get the overall plan: Teach how these factual events would fit into a simulated dawning of a new world order, and have the reader use the appendix to learn about the factual events after finishing the fictional part of the story partitioned by instructions from the author. Before reading this I was interested in sampling his non-fiction and I still am.

Brief Book Review

Just finished reading Jim Rawles’ How To Survive The End Of The World As We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times and I’m satisified with what I retained, learned, and confirmed through the first read. Jokingly, I referred to it as needing a title change such as One Thousand Ways To Die Slowly, Painfully, And Often Unaware As To Why with “Unless you read this book” as the cover flash phrase or whatever those are called. Of course, such a title only serves as a brief, uneasy laugh before one must take inventory and check and recheck.

Before sitting down to start/reread this book I suggest grabbing a pen, pad, and sticky notes.

I am one third of the way through Hologram of Liberty by Kenneth Royce and the going is slow because of the pen, pad and sticky notes.

Earlier, I read Jim Rawles’ Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse: A Novel of the Turbulent Near Future in three sittings. I look forward to the continuation of the manual style in the sequel.

Spillway Control

I threw away something I wrote for the first time. If anyone is interested, I tossed it in a dumpster across from my building about twenty days ago. The writings filled up two or three pages in a blue spiral notebook. A “sock” protected the spiraling wire on this blue, 300 page notebook. If Rankin County has a landfill check there, and if not then the Hinds County landfill should be minding it.

It was too real to be discovered I suppose.

I went out to the cabin to find 6 inches, plus or minus 1, of undisturbed Mississippi powdered rarities. I am 25 and never has snow as soft and powdered as this fallen upon where I call I home. I’m thankful that this snowfall came on the first day of a 4 day weekend.

Mammatus clouds from April 2009

The softer, bulbous clouds signify tornadic weather, and an image search of “Mammatus clouds” yields formations featuring mature development. This photograph was taken months ago facing west from my parents’ driveway. Rather than maturing into lowery expanse, this formation faded into nondescript ceiling while I observed it. I snapped eight pictures quickly and monitored swift system pass over in mere minutes. Nights like this hams find the local repeaters squawking with frivolous reports until the networks are opened up and NOAA perks her ears. NOAA gets vital information from amateur radio networks during severe weather. Weather radar, high (and low) tech ground instrumentation, and satellite imagery simply can’t provide the data our senses can relay.

I’m moving into a new apartment tomorrow. I look forward to seeing clouds like this pass disturbingly above, as I snap a picture, sip some coffee, take a drag and exhale. One is looking forward to the screened balcony.

Plane

What is death made of? Is it a conscious state or just a swill of matter? Is it the last thing I will learn? Is it loud? Or quiet, with a din emitting from a central point or echoing from the horizons of an empty plane of consciousness?

Void

Is it empty? Seemingly, our consciousness consists of components found in modern, though less organic, radios. How can the electrical charge be maintained after the body has cooled and frozen in death? Moving on without conclusion, imagine a consciousness suspended in this hellish plane surrounded by an infinite absence of light in all directions. Alone with a well of thoughts from a lifetime lived largely inside one’s consciousness. True darkness and silence as our receiver components are disabled, and the power to transmit is lost keeping all data circling within the closed circuit. Over eternity, memory fades and blends with multiple realities.

Only as of late, when I return to past musings, have I run into to trouble following word to word and grasping the final bits of thought I originally crossed. Maybe the ministrokes are real? Damn you Marlboro Man. Bits. Bits are an example of ethereal data. I have yet to discover anything but my own ignorance. A friend, unsurprisingly, shared a brief from his own research. At the moment, all I remember of the conversation amidst magnificent pub noise goes such as “it’s the future” and ends with moving on to other conversation lost in my decrepit memory. Memory is where all of this starts. From bits to qubits (a primer) we move. Just then, memory has sparked a series of recollected senses from the friendly conversation whereas Moore’s Law, energy efficiency and computing power being the variables, were positioned in syntax two ways before the interval known as Moore’s Law is repeated.
